Maryland is a beautiful and busy state of America, steeped in military history and literary heritage. The writer Edgar Allan Poe hailed from Maryland and here you can find him in my illustration of Maryland, right next to Clara Barton, founder of America's Red Cross. Maryland is home to the declining industrial and upwardly culturally rich cities of Baltimore and Annapolis as well as the coal mining city of Cumberland.
